Bengaluru Residents Restore Historic Well to Provide Water
In Bengaluru's NC Colony, residents restored a neglected well, making it a vital water source again. Partnering with various organizations, they desilted the well, which now holds water for daily use, especially during shortages.
In a significant community effort, nearly 50 to 60 residents of NC Colony in Cox Town, Bengaluru, have restored a century-old well that had fallen into neglect, becoming filled with silt, mud, and sewage. This initiative, in partnership with SayTrees Environmental Trust, Biome Environmental Trust, iCARE, and traditional well diggers, has transformed the 45-foot deep and 9-foot diameter well into a reliable source of water, now supplying over 43,000 litres each day. The revival of this well not only benefits local families but also supports nearby eateries that rely on it for cleaning and other needs, particularly when the municipal water supply is irregular. This restoration underscores the importance of revitalizing old water systems to help address the ongoing water crisis in the city.
